In April 2010 Becky was inspired to form the group and contacted The Kirkland’s, a respected southern gospel group from Douglas, GA, to get their advice and recommendations. The Kirkland’s were very supportive, were instrumental in getting the group their first sing, sold their equipment (as they received new), provided a sound technician contact and prayerfully prompted The Underwood’s to start their journey. The group initially had no name, and was known as BLP (Becky, Linda, Penny) and later called themselves The Underwood’s at the recommendation of their friend, Arlie McNeill.
Becky sings soprano and alto. She is the daughter of Jerome and Sarah Underwood Rooks, the fifth child of Loy & Lula. Becky has three children and one precious grandson. She earned a Master’s in Business Administration from Georgia Southern and a Master’s certificate in Healthcare Management from Brenau University. She works at a local hospital in the computer department.
Penny sings soprano and alto, and wears many hats for the group. She manages the The Singing Underwood’s facebook and gospelgigs.com accounts, creates bulletins, and keeps the group in harmony (all on the “right” notes at the “right” time). Penny has a natural ear for music, and is one of the most anointed singers you’ll ever hear. She is the daughter of Rose and Wayne Underwood, the fourth child of Loy and Lula. Penny is the proud parent of two children and grandparent of four beautiful grandchildren.
Lauren Stokes sings soprano and tenor for the group. She recently served as Georgia FBLA State parliamentarian and is currently attending college pursuing a degree in Nursing. Lauren is the daughter of Larry and Becky Stokes. We’re excited about what God is doing for Lauren as she uses her talents to glorify our Lord.
B.J. Crews is the group’s accomplished piano player and gifted music minister. He designs the group business cards, and assists with video uploading and other technical tasks. B.J. is a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and is an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). He is married to Traci who travels with the group taking pictures and videos. We are proud of B.J. and Traci for their work in God’s kingdom.
Michele Rowell is famously known as one of the best bass guitar players in Southeast Georgia. She previously played with The Dixieland Quartet, a southern gospel group from Jesup, GA. Michele has four children and works as a medical insurance administrator with a local OB/GYN group. She has chosen to use her talent and gifts in the music ministry to spread God’s message.
Logan Rowell, son of Michele Rowell, is the group`s drummer. A natural that played four years for the Brantley County Blue Herons. The Underwood`s are blessed to have Logan and his God-given talents.
Ronnie Harrell, a multi-talented musician from Douglas, GA plays the steel guitar and electric guitar. He also sings and manages the band. Prior to joining The Underwood`s, Ronnie was a member of The Harrell`s, a southern gospel group from Douglas. The Underwood`s welcome Ronnie`s thirty-five plus years experience and are excited about how God is blessing. Ronnie`s wife Malandy travels with the group and makes videos that are uploaded to YouTube.
Brad Harrell, son of Ronnie and Malandy, is the youngest member of our group. He is the backup drummer and brings a youthful spirit to the group.
Pattie Underwood Bunkley is the sound technician. She is the sister of Penny Underwood Dupre. Pattie has a tough job, but always has a smile on her face, is encouraging to every group member and very supportive of the group.
Velma Underwood is the group’s booking agent and manages the calendar and each of the member’s schedules. She is the sixth child of Loy and Lula, and has two children and two grandchildren. We love and appreciate Aunt Velma for all she does. She is excited about what God is doing for The Underwood’s ministry.
