The Helmsmen started sing in 1969 in upstate New York as a Trio and for over 30 years performed many concerts in New York, and surrounding states. In 2007 The Manager Ken Eash moved to Sturgis Michigan and reformed the group, This time fullfilling his dream to have a Quartet he found a Bass singer, and making the new group The Helmsmen Quartet of Michigan. The group currently sings through out Michigan and northern Indiana singing the gospel. The group currently consists of Gary Sportel of Kalamazoo on Tenor, John Davis of Sturgis on Lead, Ken Eash of Sturgis on Baritone and Mark Davis of Allegan on Bass, togather their rich harmonies will be a blessing to everyone that hears them.
