Few voices have touched as many hearts as the smooth tenor voice of Terry Davis.
If youve ever listened to Southern Gospel Music, you are familiar with his voice when you listen to “When He Was On The Cross, I Was On His Mind ”. Recorded when he traveled with the Florida Boys, it became one of the all time mega hits, staying on the charts for an incredible 18 months, and capturing song of the year for two straight years.
Terry was raised singing at church. He dressed for Sunday School while listening to the Gospel Singing Jubilee. He watched the Florida Boys, never realizing that he be given the opportunity to join the legendary group, and tour the nation stirring hearts with his (dynamic) tenor tones.
Terry married and started a family. After years of traveling with different groups, the pressures of touring took its toll and he made a decision to venture out into ministry on his own. Making people laugh opened the door as he soon became known for his traditional music style and wit, delivered with refreshing transparency.
Soon, the call of God began to deepen as he felt a stirring in his heart to shape purpose and destiny in people…..not just with his music, but with his message. His ability to take the Word and make it relevant to daily life gained him the opportunity to pastor Church at the Crossroads.
In 2003, he went through an unwanted divorce and found himself a single father with custody of his young daughter. During this overwhelmingly difficult season, the God who had called him met him at the place he began. The melodies of his beloved music soon became quiet within him while he struggled to deal with what seemed irreversible loss.
He took a secular job and raised his young daughter while God worked within him purifying his motives, and focusing his calling in new directions. As we know, "the gifts and callings are without repentance". After years of soul searching and quiet time with the Father, Terry feels he has reached a place in his restoration that now qualifies him to stand among the many hurt and broken and proclaim with fresh anointing, "Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus".
The call of God beckons him forward as Terry now moves his ministry in a brand new season. Those who hear Terry today will recognize the touch of the Master’s Hand on his life. When you hear him today, you will laugh…..you will cry…..and you will find a fresh Word for your life.
