CRIMSON GOLD DISBANDED ON JANUARY 8, 2017. Crimson Gold`s Mission: In 1989, Kent Mathes (bass), Bobby Sullivan (lead), Glen “Doug” Berry (baritone), Mike Elam (tenor), and Sally Mathes (piano) started a Southern Gospel quartet out of Iron Mountain, Missouri called “Homeland”. In January of 1991, Ray Reese came and replaced Doug Berry in the baritone slot. In 1992, due to the fact that a group from Nashville, TN had the same name, they changed the name of the group to “Crimson Gold”. Crimson Gold would later add a bass guitarist and a drummer, rounding out the live band. Through the years, men have come and been a part of this ministry, some staying for a short time, and some for many years. When God closes one door, he always opens another. Sometimes it is hard to know what lies ahead, but God knows, and was shaping this ministry, making all of the right moves at the right times. In March of 2007, brothers Alan Freeman (baritone), and Greg Freeman (lead), would join Ray Reese (tenor), and Kent Mathes (bass), bringing together the group of men that currently make up the group. This group of men, many say, is where God has been molding the group from the beginning, and they are more focused now than ever on sharing the good news of Jesus with the world. In June, 2012, the Crimson Gold Band (Dave Williford-keyboard, Steve Allbritton-bass guitar, and Andrew Mathes-drums) took another direction in their lives, and the group began performing using pre-recorded tracks. Over the years, Crimson gold has had opportunities to sing in front of untold thousands of people. They have sang at churches, county fairs, state fairs, bank parking lots, auditoriums, high school gyms, rodeo grounds, car lots……. You get the picture. They have sang in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Iowa. They also count it a privilege to have performed on a near annual basis at Silver Dollar City, in Branson, MO since 1993. If the opportunity to bring the message of the cross and the life changing power of the of the blood of Jesus is presented to them, they have been willing to go. To date Crimson Gold has made eleven recordings. The Group’s previous recording, “Following His Call” was a huge success, with four of the songs released to national radio and three of the four charting in the Singing News Magazine’s top 80 Chart. In May of 2011, Les Butler, owner of the Singing News Magazine wrote an article about Crimson Gold published in the May, 2011 issue of The Singing News Magazine saying, "All pistons seem to be firing for this outstanding Quartet! Their home state of Missouri will no longer be able to hold their talents. Watch out America, here they come!" In February, 2015, Crimson Gold went back to Crossroads Studio in Arden, North Carolina. The recording has 12 songs, seven of which were masterfully written by Alan Freeman. The group worked hard preparing for this recording and their hard work paid off in helping them to produce what may be their best recording to date. The title cut, "Unite", has a message that the church of today needs to hear and pay heed to its message. “Unite, let’s all come together, Unite in the name of the Lord, Let’s sing the songs of salvation, And preach from God’s Holy Word. No matter what church congregation, We’re striving for Heaven’s reward, Unite let’s all come together, Unite in the name of the Lord.” What a powerful message! The Christians of today need to forget their differences and Unite. So, this has been a small peek into the group, “Crimson Gold”. They are a group of Christian men that have been called of God to share the Gospel of Christ. The good news that, “Jesus is the way, the truth, and the light. No man comes to the Father but by ME”. Crimson Gold has had it high points and its low points over the years. There have been cuts and bruises, times of worry and stress…….If you have never traveled around in an old bus, you really do not know what worry and stress that can cause. But through it all, the focus of the group has been Jesus. The group’s theme is “It’s All About Jesus.” That is a song that Crimson Gold has recorded on two of our cd`s and is our anthem. All of the years spent traveling, singing, laughing, crying, and pouring our hearts into the music would be for nothing, were it not for Jesus. It truly is “All About Him”.
