NEW DIRECTION MINISTRIES is a family evangelism team as well as a mixed quartet. They are made up of two brothers and their wives, Jimmy Smith and wife, Teresa, and Darren and wife, Donna Smith.
This group began in October of 1981, however, in September of 2003 NDM surrendered to God’s call full time. This group has sang to the troops of the 101st airborne division at Fort Campbell, KY, worked with the North American Mission Board in New York state to minister to the rural areas of the north country on the Canadian border. They have shared the stage with some of Southern Gospels most noted groups such as Danny Funderburk & Mercy’s Way, The Dixie Echoes, Heirline, Donnie Sumner, Wade Spencer, Kevin Spencer and friends, the Chuck Wagon Gang, the Anchormen, and various other groups.
They have released three songs to national radio with two songs making to the top 80 charts - ‘Only in God We Trust’ and ‘You Can’t Receive a Blessing’. Both songs were written by group members, Darren and Donna Smith. Each member of NDM has been blessed by the Lord to have the ability to write songs that speak directly to your heart. They will all quickly tell you that they just hold the pen, God writes the songs! NEW DIRECTION MINISTRIES is with the Eddie Crook Company and MORNING STAR Records of Nashville, TN. Their latest project ‘Our Journey Home’ was released March of 2009. Their current single from that project is `HE RESCUED ME` and can be heard on the Eddie Crook 2009-02 compilation, cut #7.
New Direction Ministries not only performs in concert, but leads revival services as well. Bro. Darren is a licensed, ordained minister and preaches straight from the word of God. Jim leads in congregational songs and worship, the group then comes together for songs that minister and bless all that are present. When God’s people are receptive, His presence is felt and revival continues long after NDM has gone.
One of the greatest compliments they have received is that people everywhere tell them “you all feel like part of our family”, “It’s like you’re my next door neighbor”, or “I feel like I’ve known you forever!” That is how NDM feels about the people they meet as well. Everyone feels like family, friends and neighbors; especially when you’re worshipping Christ together. Surely that is what Heaven will be like, all of us gathered close together hugging one another, children sitting in your lap and everyone singing, shouting and praising our Lord Jesus Christ! What a day that will be!!! We can have a little bit of heaven here on earth, when we open our hearts and when we are open to God’s Word as well as His will.
That is New Direction’s prayer. That God keep them in His will, that he ordains their steps, and that Christ anoint each song, each testimony, each sermon and each service to be used of the Lord for His Holy glory.
